Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection adding Patch Cards, Boktai content and more!

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection has been shown once again at Capcom Spotlight, this time with brand new info about added features in the collection. Director Masakazu Eguchi delivered the news directly to us in a new Mr. Famous News segment. Additionally, a new interview with Mr. Eguchi has been published on Rockman Unity, with translations over on Capcom USA’s News site.

For the full video from Capcom Spotlight, check out the VOD below. (Starts at the 12 minute mark.) Read below for more details!

Patch Cards

The Kaizo Cards feature makes a return from the Japanese versions of Battle Network 4, 5 and 6! Now known as Patch Cards, this feature lets you obtain all those goodies which were originally locked behind Game Boy Advance e-Reader functionality in the Japanese versions.

The Legacy Collection will feature a whopping 499 Patch Cards across BN4, BN5 and BN6. This includes:

  • Patch Cards (4, 5, 6): Grants MegaMan new abilities, changes his Charge Shot or increases his stats.
  • Event Cards (6): Adds new Request BBS jobs. These were unlockable in-game in the original English GBA versions, but had to be obtained from e-Reader in the Japanese versions.
  • Item Cards (5, 6): Can be used one time to obtain BattleChips, SubChips, Zennys or BugFrags.
  • Special Cards (4, 5, 6): Promotional Patch Cards which were only available from special events. Also includes Boktai tie-in cards.
  • Character Cards (4): These cards do not have an in-game function, but allow you to view NetNavi artwork.

In addition to all original cards, there is a new promotional Patch Card included for MMBN4 which grants the Z Saber BattleChip. Mr. Eguchi notes that the Lotto Number will also be left intact, so this means you can grab two copies of Z Saber!

Naturally, the Bass Cross MegaMan promotional Patch Card is also included. This card was special in that it could be used both in MMBN5 and MMBN6. In MMBN5, this card will change MegaMan’s appearance and allow you to fight different versions of Bass, such as the dreaded Bass XX. For MMBN6, the development team has opted to keep MegaMan’s sprite the same as the original, rather than bringing over the Bass Cross sprite from MMBN5.

Boktai content

Boktai fans need worry no longer: Boktai content has now been fully confirmed to be present in Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, complete with Battle Chips, crossover scenarios and Patch Cards!

This means that English players will be able to experience the extra Boktai content which was removed from the English versions of Battle Network 6 for the first time, with the postgame crossover story being newly translated.

However, one aspect of the Boktai crossover has been changed. Since it is not possible to have Crossover Battles with the actual Boktai games, you will now receive Crossover Points from Ranked Matches instead. These Crossover Points can be used with special Chip Traders found on the Net to obtain exclusive Boktai Battle Chips.

Buster MAX Mode

Just like previous Legacy Collections, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection will have an option to make the game easier for new players, or returning players who find themselves with less free time than they used to have.

This comes in the form of Buster MAX Mode. This option can be toggled on/off at any point, and will multiply the damage of the Mega Buster by 100. Yes, you read that correctly: if the Mega Buster deals 5 damage normally, it will now do a staggering 500 damage.

There are some caveats, however. The damage multiplication only applies to the standard Mega Buster; certain Power Attacks will not be affected. Also, having this feature on will not allow you to record boss deletion times in Battle Network 3 and on. And, of course, the feature is auto-disabled in online battles. Speaking of which…

Online balance changes

We already got a few balance changes before, but now a couple of new ones have been announced by Mr. Eguchi. Here’s the full list of balance changes which are applied in online battles. Note that these are only for online battles; single player gameplay will be just as in the original release.

  • All games: A timer has been added to the Custom Screen. After 20 seconds pass, the Custom Screen closes automatically. (The timeout may change in the final version.)
  • MMBN2: The Prism Chip works similarly to MMBN3, meaning the TreeBomb Prism combo glitch cannot be used.
  • (NEW!) All games: Buster MAX Mode cannot be used.
  • (NEW!) MMBN4, 5, 6: You can choose to play with or without Patch Cards. You’ll only be matched with opponents that chose the same setting.
  • (NEW!) MMBN4: The All Guard Patch Card, which causes MegaMan to always be guarded, cannot be used in online battles.
  • (NEW!) MMBN4, 5: Auto Battle Data (ABD) tactics have been nerfed. Even if you trained your ABD to only use powerful Chips, it will now also use Standard Chips to balance things out.

The last change means that MMBN5’s DarkInvis Chip, which was previously banned in official tournaments in Japan, can now be used freely in Ranked Matches.

Online rankings

Mr. Eguchi also shared more information on the ranking system present for online matches. It seems there are quite a few ranks for skilled Net Battlers to obtain:

  • E
  • D
  • C
  • B
  • A
  • S
  • S++
  • Ω
