Mega Man Battle Network 2 saw many enhancements from the first game, starting the base of the battle system and style of story progression the later games follow on. Starting with GateMan, the game started the tradition of fan-submitted original Navis.
The Japanese version saw a bundle with a special Gameboy Advance branded with Hikari Labs and EXE's symbol.
