These are the Version Differences between the two versions of Mega Man Battle Network 5 Team ProtoMan and Team Colonel. All of these differences are present in DS version of the game as well.

Story Differences

With Version-exclusive Characters

Story-based

  • In Chapter 4, how the team leaders deal with Lan losing MegaMan is different:
    • Team ProtoMan: Lan attacks Chaud and goes on a rant. Chaud takes it all and asks Lan what MegaMan would say before leaving.
    • Team Colonel: Baryl attacks Lan and tells him to deal with and go forward with his mission. Lan then asks himself what MegaMan would say.
  • In Chapter 5 of Team ProtoMan, SearchMan states CosmoMan is the leader of Nebula’s Sharo division. This added info doesn’t exist in Team Colonel.

NPC Dialogue

Some NPCs will have different dialogue.

  • In ACDC Town, the woman comments on who was at the park is different: a cool guy with sunglasses, or a cool silent-type.
  • In SciLab, the scientist who worked all night on security system updates has different dialogue: wondering if Raika will get mad at him for taking a nap, or he's sleepy but one person needs him to be there.

Without Version-exclusive Characters

While the story have some changes between versions due to the difference in characters, some scenes that have the same characters appear in both versions are also changed.

  • In the Prologue and Chapter 5, during the SciLab Vision Burst, the position of Tadashi Hikari and Wily are different. The one who leaves the room is also different. Due to this, the dialogue Lan and MegaMan have and hears from the person in the room is different.
    • In Team ProtoMan, Wily is on the right and Tadashi is on the left. Tadashi gets called out of the room. Wily worries that SoulNet is too powerful to get in the wrong hands and must have a contingency plan.
    • In Team Colonel, Tadashi is on the right and Wily is on the left. Wily gets called out out of the room. Tadashi puts his hope on their sons to finish SoulNet.
Team ProtoMan Team Colonel
MegaMan: Lan, let's go talk to Wily. Maybe he can tell us something. MegaMan: Lan, let's go talk to Gramps. Maybe he can tell us something.
Lan: Wily?! I'm not sure that's a good idea⋯ Be careful. Lan: OK, give it try.
MegaMan: Don't worry. That's the old Wily over there. I'm gonna try. Um, excuse me⋯ MegaMan: Roger! Um, excuse me⋯
Wily (young): I hope a time will come when SoulNet will be possible. But it's really a double-edged sword⋯ We must think about the worst scenario⋯ I should be going. Tadashi (young): SoulNet⋯ Surely our sons can build such a wonderful world. They are our hope⋯ I should be going.
MegaMan: Ah, he's gone⋯ SoulNet's a double-edged sword⋯? The worst scenario⋯? What did he mean⋯? MegaMan: Ah, he's gone⋯
Lan: At any rate, it seems Regal is up to whatever it was Wily feared⋯ Regal⋯ He's ruining Gramps's dream. MegaMan, jack out. Let's go prepare for the final battle tomorrow. Lan: Regal⋯ He's ruining Gramps's dream. MegaMan, jack out. Let's go prepare for the final battle tomorrow.
MegaMan: Gotcha! MegaMan: Gotcha!
  • In the ending of the story, when Tadashi reaches out to Lan and MegaMan through SoulNet, the dialogue differs.
    • In Team ProtoMan, Lan and Regal recognizes the voice as Tadashi Hikari.
    • In Team Colonel, the owner of the voice is left ambiguous.
Team ProtoMan Team Colonel
No image: Lan・・・ No image: Lan・・・
Lan: T-that voice ・・・Gramps?! Lan: T-that voice ・・・ Could it be⋯
No image: Lan, you and MegaMan are always linked⋯ It is just difficult to see right now⋯ I repeat⋯ You two are always linked⋯ No image: You and MegaMan are always linked⋯ Do not forget it⋯ You and MegaMan are always linked⋯
Lan: Gramps・・・ Of course we are, MegaMan⋯ We're always linked! We don't need SoulNet!!! Right, MegaMan!!! Lan: ・・・Of course we are, MegaMan⋯ We're always linked! We don't need SoulNet!!! Right, MegaMan!!!
Dr. Regal: This can't be!!! Hikari's Dad is helping his grandson?! Dr. Regal: Grrr! Who is helping Lan?! ・・・What the?!
  • In the ending of the story, Regal’s final fate was presented differently:
    • In Team ProtoMan, Wily only appears off screen and his dialogue with Regal is much shorter.
    • In Team Colonel, Wily appears in person and has additional dialogue with Regal to explain his actions during the ending. Also this reveals Baryl is helping Wily.
