Check out Phantom Rift, a game inspired by MMBN

phantom-riftWatch the trailer below; notice anything familiar? Mobile game dev Foursaken Media, consisting of four brothers making video games, has created Phantom Rift, an adventure RPG for Android and iOS that draws heavily from Mega Man Battle Network.

The game has you journeying through dungeons composed of blocky pathways, which are cleverly transformed when an enemy is encountered, into the 6-by-3 battlefield we all know and love. The battles themselves play out much like in MMBN. While the battle is paused, choose from a random set of spells; then, use them to destroy your enemies. The spells available during battle are chosen from a pouch of 30 spells, that you can build outside of battle.

The Phantom Rift: a dark, ethereal world filled with mystery and powerful magic. You don’t know how or why you are there, only that you must find a way back to the True World at any and all costs…

Phantom Rift is an adventure/RPG with a unique battle system (inspired by Mega Man Battle Network), hundreds of spells to collect and use, endless equipment combinations to customize your wizard with, and much more. Explore a vast over world, interact with ethereal wisps, take on side quests, journey through dungeons, collect loot, and take part in skill based, strategic battles!

However, Phantom Rift also adds its own spin to the formula. Instead of a CustomGauge, your spells are limited by the amount of mana you have–which regenerates over time. You will find armor upgrades and other loot during your travels, which you can use to customize and power up your character.

Phantom Rift will be available on iTunes from September 11th 2014 for approximately 2 – 3 USD, and on Google Play shortly thereafter. You can find the developers on Twitter and Facebook; follow them for a chance to win a free code in the coming days!
